Hue Blanes

in a certain room from the right angle when the light is right hue blanes has big hands, like twice as big as when you shake them, maybe he has even four of them …….

is it really a good idea to try and do too many things? to write classical music, run a jazz trio, play weddings which can be depressing if you don’t believe in marriage, write pop music that you could never call popular, and incredibly unfashionable song cycles that should be today’s pop music, but that’s not how it is now so maybe 100 years ago it was pop or maybe in another 100 will be pop again…

hue is a singer and piano player and does both like his life depends on it, he is planning to move to Europe soon and study, because Australia is tiny and maybe they don’t understand him but still he wins awards like PBS Young Elder of Jazz 2017, like multi award nominations for the Green Room awards 2017 because people can recognise genius when they see it, is this a wise way to approach a career? is this what constitutes a good life?

he maintains a fascination with the moon and its pull on the ocean and the body and the mind which is made of water like the ocean so surely the moon affects things, he doesn’t pick up the phone much…. sits playing in a church eight hours a day although a non-commital non-believer (they said if he moved his grand piano in there and played for the Sunday services then the rent was free so good enough ) goes to Italy because the food is good, and is learning Italian because love songs sound good in that tongue

plays with the Jazz Party, an underground music dive, where his off the wall piano can move a whole room's dancing bones..... and writes obscure melancholic song cycles nobody will ever hear about the illuminati and the pope and Vladimir Putin and loneliness... he has worked in close collaborations in Singh & Blanes -with Parvyn Singh writing love songs 30s hindu cross music hall as well as with opera singer Oliver Mann on a series of songs about the lonely end to lonely lives alone, he sometimes plays keys for Deborah Conway and has for Vince Jones and Harry Angus too, and plays in his bedroom for his housemates best of all.... are you joining any dots here, is anyone out there

people reckon he sounds a bit like Jeff Buckley, maybe you can hear traces of Bach, whoever Father John Misty is he's been compared to him too but hue wouldn't know him anyway..... he listens to Mario Lanza some nights, then maybe Lenny Tristano, then lots of Keith Jarrett, his piano can be reminiscent of Nina Simone too, his first album 'Sad Songs Make Me Happy' is the truth they do make him happy, his second album 'Holiday' is about hue wanting to have a holiday away from himself.... in a period of existential collapse this is what hue says about it “The album was written while I was living with a schizophrenic golfing marijuana shaman who spent 8 hours a day shaking maracas on his knees whilst massaging himself and giving complex advice on posture and world politics to the other housemates and myself… Things needed to change. I wrote songs and got some new housemates. Meanwhile the shaman is living in a volcano in Nicaragua and having a great time and I'm releasing the album 3 years later and still in the same house.” there are another 3 albums sitting about waiting for money to come from more weddings, songs about the illuminati, conspiracy theories, world leaders and Hue's moon tugged mind.
